What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine is evidence-based medicine that treats the whole person by addressing the root cause(s) of illness and emphasizes prevention of illness. Naturopathic doctors educate and empower patients to be the leaders and decision-makers of their own health. Naturopathic medicine philosophy is grounded in the understanding that our bodies have an innate ability to heal; when disturbances to health are removed and the foundations of health are restored, our bodies can return to balance by first using the least invasive interventions.

Naturopathic doctors are trained in lifestyle medicine, botanical medicine, physical medicine, nutrition, homeopathy, mind-body medicine, pharmacology, nutraceuticals, and other modalities, and aim to individualize these treatments to support and restore function with no harm done to the patient.

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) attend a 4-year post-graduate program that includes clinical training.
